In which the Otis family encounters the persistent and rather stubbornly indelible bloodstains that prompt even the most sceptical among them to entertain the notion of ghosts, whilst their peaceful evening is rudely interrupted by the spectral apparition of Sir Simon himself. The ghost, affronted by Mr Otis’s practical American solution involving a lubricating oil and the impish antics of the Otis children, retreats to a secret chamber to brood over his storied past and contemplate a suitable revenge.
