i recorded this in December and have been sitting on it for a while until recently encouraged by conversations with friends who felt similarly / had similar experiences. in this episode i delve into what i've noticed among city culture in Cape Town through the lens of my personal experience. i ask: who are we performing for and why? as a relational species we are quite literally not genetically built to live in isolation and the scourge of hyper-individualism/independence and nonchalance is so very prevalent and glamorised in city culture of the epitome of "the life you should be living". there is immense pressure to conform to these societal standards but in that same breath, there is the power of choice. yes, many conform to the confines of society out of survival, but what about when we emerge from that? what about when we have cultivated a safer space for the expression of your identity and what Home might mean to you? let's get into it.
