The Catcher in the Rye, by J. D. Salinger, chapter 8, narrated by Isaac Birchall
In this chapter, Holden walks all the way to the train station and catches a late train to New York. At Trenton, a pretty woman gets on and sits next to him. She turns out to be the mother of another boy at Pencey, Earnest Morrow. He dislikes Earnest terribly, but Holden tells his mother some huge lies about her son being the most popular boy in the school and tells that they tried to convince him to run for class president, but that he son being too proud turned it down. After too lying about his name, Holden claims to be leaving to have surgery to remove a brain tumour.
