  • We are Moving
    🚚 We Are Moving! ❤️
After many years in the Sacramento area, Liz and I are packing up and heading back home to Redding, California!
It’s exciting, a little emotional, and definitely a lot of boxes! 📦 But most of all, we’re grateful for this new chapter God has placed before us.
And yes… The Catholic Journey is moving too! 🎙️
The microphones, computers, recording equipment—and probably way too many cords—are all being packed up. So we’ll be taking a short break from our daily episodes while we make the move and get the new studio set up in Redding.
This little song, “We Are Moving,” is our fun way of saying:
We’re not going away—we’re just changing addresses!
Thank you for walking this journey with us. Keep us in your prayers as we make the move, and don’t wander too far…
We’ll see you again soon—from Redding, California! ❤️🎙️

  • When All You Can Do is Trust God
Sometimes we reach a point where we've prayed, planned, worried, tried to fix things—and still don't know what comes next.
That's when faith becomes very simple:
    “Jesus, I trust in You.”
In the final episode of our When Faith Meets Real Life series, we reflect on what it means to trust God when we don't have the answers, can't see the road ahead, and have done everything we know how to do.
Trust doesn't mean understanding everything. It means believing that God is still with us—even in the uncertainty.
This episode also marks a transition for The Catholic Journey. Liz and I are moving from Sacramento back to Redding, California, and the recording studio is moving with us! Because of that, I'll be taking a short break from the daily episodes while we get moved and the new studio set up.
We're not saying goodbye. We're simply beginning another chapter.
Thank you for walking with me through this series. Until we meet again from Redding, remember:
You don't have to know where every road leads.
You just have to trust the One who does.

  • When You Need To Begin Again
Sometimes life doesn't turn out the way we planned.
A door closes. A relationship changes. A season ends. We move, retire, lose someone, make a mistake, or simply realize that life is asking us to go in a different direction.
And suddenly we have to begin again.
In Episode 17 of The Catholic Journey, we talk about the courage it takes to let go of what was and trust God with what comes next.
Beginning again doesn't mean forgetting the past. It means taking the memories, lessons, love—and even the scars—with us while believing that God is still writing our story.
    You are not too old.
    You are not too late.
And your best days don't necessarily have to be behind you.
Sometimes an ending is simply the place where God begins something new.

  • I Choose Happy
    Today, I choose happy. ☀️
Life isn't perfect. There will always be problems, disappointments, and things we can't control. But we can choose what we focus on—faith, gratitude, kindness, family, laughter, and the blessings God has placed right in front of us.
My new song, “I Choose Happy,” is a reminder that happiness doesn't mean pretending everything is okay. Sometimes it simply means refusing to let the difficult things steal all the joy from today.
Trouble can knock, but it doesn't get the key.
Choose gratitude. Choose joy. Choose life. And today… choose happy. ❤️

  • When Death Becomes Real
We all know that life will someday end—but there comes a moment when death stops being something distant and suddenly becomes real.
In this episode of The Catholic Journey, we reflect on grief, our own mortality, and the incredible hope Christ gives us: death does not have the final word.
Maybe remembering that life is temporary isn't meant to frighten us. Maybe it's meant to remind us to live—to love deeply, forgive quickly, cherish the people around us, and trust that beyond the Cross is the Resurrection.

  • When You Wonder If Your Life Made A Difference
Have you ever looked back over your life and wondered, “Did any of it really matter?”
In Episode 15 of The Catholic Journey, we reflect on a truth we often forget: the greatest difference we make may be found not in our accomplishments, but in the people we loved, encouraged, forgave, and helped along the way.
We may never see the full impact of our lives—but God does.
We plant seeds. God takes care of the harvest.

  • It's Not Too Late To Go Into The Vineyard
It’s Not Too Late to Go Into the Vineyard
Have you ever said “no” to God? Maybe through anger, fear, pride, disappointment—or simply by walking away.
In Matthew 21:28–32, Jesus reminds us of something incredibly hopeful: your first answer does not have to be your final answer.
No matter how long we’ve been away, how many mistakes we’ve made, or how many times we’ve resisted God’s call, the Father continues to invite us into His vineyard.
You cannot change yesterday. But you can change your answer today.
The Father is still calling. The vineyard is still open. And it is never too late to say, “Yes, Lord. I’ll go.”

  • These Years Look Good on You
These Years Look Good on You is a celebration of growing older—not as something to fear, but as something to be grateful for.
The years leave their marks, but they also bring wisdom, memories, laughter, love, and a deeper appreciation for what really matters. Every wrinkle has a story, every gray hair represents another season lived, and every year is another gift from God.
We may not look like we did years ago—and maybe that’s a good thing. We’ve loved, learned, struggled, grown, and become more fully who God created us to be.
So here’s to getting older with gratitude, faith, and a smile.
These years look good on you. ❤️

  • Goodbye Lil White Kia Rio
Today I said goodbye to an old friend. ❤️🚗
I sold my little white Kia Rio today. I’ve had it since 2016, and even though it was just a car, it was harder to watch it go than I expected.
It started out as Granny’s car, and somehow became part of my own story. For ten years it carried me through everyday life, mile after mile, eventually reaching more than 150,000 miles.
It certainly had its personality. 😂 The airbag light that refused to go away. The gas gauge that would drop to empty right after I filled the tank—only to magically come back a few miles later. Cruise control gave up years ago. The check-engine light liked to visit whenever it felt lonely. And lately, the engine had developed a few interesting sounds of its own.
But that little Kia kept going. And somehow it still managed around 30 miles to the gallon!
So I wrote this song as a funny farewell to a car that gave me a lot more years and miles than I ever expected.
It’s strange how something as ordinary as a car can become connected to so many memories. Maybe that’s why saying goodbye is a little harder than I thought it would be.
Thanks for the ride, little Kia. You did good. ❤️
And Granny… I took pretty good care of your car. Well… mostly. 😂

  • When We are Getting Older
    When You Are Growing Older
Growing older can bring changes we never expected—slower bodies, changing roles, losses, memories, and the realization that there may be more years behind us than ahead.
But aging isn't simply about what we're losing. It can also be about what we're gaining: wisdom, perspective, gratitude, deeper faith, and a clearer understanding of what truly matters.
In Episode 14 of When Faith Meets Real Life, we explore how God continues to work in every season of our lives—and why growing older doesn't mean our story is ending.
🎙️ The Catholic Journey with Deacon Pat Kearns
Growing older isn't the end of your purpose. There are still pages left to write.
