The challenges of moving from a non-creative life to a creative one

Moving from a non-creative life to a creative one isn't easy. It's scary. It's vulnerable, filled with highs and lows but if a creative life is calling to you then it's worth the risk.

I share some of the challenges I faced:

Overcoming fears of being foolish, too old and being judged as not good

Overcoming my inner critic. The only one judging me was myself.

Learning not to worry so much about what people might think. They're too busy with their own lives.

Trying to return to the confidence and self-belief I had when I was younger.

The intense emotions, vulnerability and emotional highs and lows of a creative life

Exposing myself to rejection

Letting go of perfectionism

Learning to work at the two sides of being an artist - making the work and sharing your work so people can find you.

saying yes to opportunities when I was scared and clueless

Learning to take risks and do small acts of bravery. Each act of bravery was like a stepping stone, leading me from the land of the non-creative to the land of the creative.

In the same way you develop your voice as an artist or follow your intuition when you paint, you have to learn to listen to your inner voice telling you where to go next on your creative journey - what's the next step you have to take.
