  • Who Takes Care of the Strong One?

Are you the person everyone depends on when life gets difficult? The one who stays calm, offers encouragement, and holds everything together? But who takes care of you when you're the one who needs support?

In this episode of The Chaplain's Chair, Tim Lajoie, BCC, explores the often-overlooked emotional and spiritual burdens carried by caregivers, parents, spouses, pastors, and others who are expected to remain strong for everyone around them.

Drawing from his experience as a hospice chaplain, Tim shares how a series of devastating tragedies affected his care team, including the suicide of a hospice patient and a house fire that left a colleague's family displaced. As his coworkers turned to him for reassurance and spiritual support, the experience revealed the importance of mutual encouragement, Christian faith, and recognizing the needs of those who care for others.

Through the biblical account of Moses receiving help from Aaron and Hur (Exodus 17), along with Galatians 6:2, Tim examines what Scripture teaches about sharing burdens, accepting help, and understanding that even dependable people have limitations.

If you're experiencing caregiver stress, emotional exhaustion, overwhelming responsibilities, or the pressure of always being the strong one, this episode offers biblical encouragement and a reminder that you don't have to carry every burden alone.

Even the strongest among us sometimes need someone to lean on.

The Chaplain's Chair is a Christian podcast exploring faith, relationships, caregiving, life's difficult questions, and the hope found in Jesus Christ.

  • When Dementia Changes a Loved One: Christian Hope, Dignity, and Connection

Does visiting still matter when someone you love no longer recognizes you?

In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, I share a visit with a 100-year-old woman living with advanced dementia—and the lesson God taught me when conversation wasn’t possible. I had been looking for a response, but meaningful care began with recognizing the person in front of me.

Drawing on Genesis 1:27 and Matthew 25:40, we’ll reflect on the dignity that remains when memory and communication fade. We’ll consider ways to approach visits through familiar stories, music, photographs, or simply sitting together, without making every encounter a test of memory.

We’ll also acknowledge the exhaustion, sadness, and guilt that families and caregivers can experience. Needing help doesn’t mean you love someone less.

If you’re caring for a loved one with dementia or wondering whether your presence makes a difference, join me for Christian encouragement about compassion, connection, and seeing the person behind the illness.

  • Sharing Your Faith Without Pressure: Trust, Patience, and Conversations About Jesus

Do you have someone in your life who doesn’t want to talk about Christianity? How can you share your faith while keeping the door open for an honest conversation?

In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, I share an experience from my work as a hospice chaplain. A devoted husband who initially avoided my visits gradually began listening, asking questions, and eventually raising a deeply personal question about receiving Jesus Christ.

Drawing on 1 Corinthians 3:6–7, 1 Peter 3:15, and John 1:12, we’ll consider how trust develops, why humility and respect matter when sharing the gospel, and the difference between knowing about Jesus and responding to Him in faith.

If you’re concerned about a friend or family member who doesn’t share your beliefs—or you’re exploring questions about Christianity yourself—join me for a reflection on patient conversations, consistent Christian living, and trusting God with the work we cannot do in another person’s heart.

Leave the door to the conversation open.

  • What to Say to Someone Who Is Grieving: Comfort, Faith, and Listening

When someone you care about loses a loved one, you want to offer comfort. But what should you say—and why might the same words comfort one person and hurt another?

In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, I draw on my experiences with personal loss, pastoral training, and hospice chaplaincy to explore how we can support a grieving friend with compassion. We’ll consider familiar expressions like “time heals all wounds,” why relationship and timing matter, and how well-intentioned advice can unintentionally tell someone how they ought to feel.

Reflecting on Romans 12:15 and the Christian hope we have in the resurrection of Jesus Christ, we’ll consider why faith doesn’t erase sorrow—and why people who share the same faith may still grieve differently.

If you’re unsure how to help someone who is grieving, join me as we consider the value of listening, being present, and making room for memories, tears, laughter, or silence. You don’t have to find the perfect words to care for someone who is hurting.

  • Does Your Past Have to Define Your Future?

Have you made mistakes that still affect your life today? Do you struggle with regret, poor decisions, a troubled past, or the feeling that you'll never be able to change? Does your past have to define your future?

In this episode of The Chaplain's Chair, Christian chaplain Tim Lajoie explores what the Bible teaches about second chances, personal transformation, accountability, and finding a new beginning through Jesus Christ.

Drawing on his experience in jail mentoring and aftercare, Tim examines the Apostle Paul's remarkable transformation from persecutor of Christians to preacher of the Gospel. Discover why your past mistakes don't have to determine your future, why genuine change requires responsibility, and what it really means to become a new creation in Christ.

You cannot rewrite yesterday, but through God's grace, you can begin living differently today.

  • What If God Doesn't Give You What You Prayed For?

Have you ever prayed for something desperately important, only to feel that God wasn't answering? Maybe you've prayed for healing, a struggling marriage, a loved one, or a situation that seems impossible to change. What happens to your faith when God doesn't give you what you prayed for?

In this episode of The Chaplain's Chair, Chaplain Tim Lajoie explores what the Bible teaches about unanswered prayer, trusting God's will, and finding strength when life doesn't turn out as expected.

Through the experiences of the Apostle Paul and Jesus in Gethsemane, discover why unanswered prayers don't necessarily mean God isn't listening, why faith isn't a guarantee of getting what we want, and how God's grace can sustain us through life's most difficult circumstances.

When God doesn't change your circumstances, it doesn't mean He's abandoned you.

  • Can You Forgive Someone Who Isn't Sorry?

What do you do when someone hurts you but refuses to apologize?

Can you forgive someone who isn't sorry—and does forgiveness mean you have to trust them again?

In this episode of The Chaplain's Chair, Chaplain Tim Lajoie explores what the Bible teaches about forgiveness, repentance, reconciliation, and letting go of resentment.

Discover why forgiving someone doesn't excuse their actions, why reconciliation isn't always possible, and how extending forgiveness can free you from bitterness—even when the person who hurt you never asks for it.

You may never receive the apology you deserve. But you don't have to spend the rest of your life waiting for it.

  • Can God Forgive Me?

Have I gone too far for God to forgive me?

Many people carry a quiet fear that something in their past has permanently separated them from God. Maybe they’ve avoided prayer, stayed away from church, or convinced themselves that forgiveness is available for other people—but not for them.

In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, we look at what the Bible says about God’s mercy, forgiveness, repentance, and restoration. If you’ve ever wondered whether you can come back to God after years away—or after something you thought was unforgivable—this episode is for you.

  • You Don’t Always Know What God Is Doing

Why doesn’t God always show us what He is doing?

There are seasons when prayers seem unanswered, circumstances make little sense, and we can’t see where God is leading. In this episode of The Chaplain’s Chair, we explore Christian faith, trusting God in difficult times, unanswered prayer, and what the Bible teaches about walking by faith when we cannot see the whole picture. Sometimes faith isn’t understanding what God is doing—it’s trusting Him when we don’t.
