How to Have a Happy Holiday Surrounded by Unhappy People!

We are entering the Holiday Season, and whether you must spend it with family during Christmas, colleagues during a Business Party, or the Outlaws and In-laws during New Year’s…. Holidays can be a tough time to walk through. Trust I know… I’ve been there.

 This week I’m going to share 7 Principles on How to Have a Happy Holiday Surrounded by Unhappy People. Just to make sure you get them all here they are in a quick applicable format, although I go into greater detail in thepodcast:

1. Decided BEFORE the gathering or event to ENJOY it! Choose Happiness! Choose a good expectation!
2. Don’t give PERMISSION to others to control you!
3. Know the topics you are willing to discuss Don’t talk about topics or issues that you don’t want to… If necessary, leave the room so that you don’t have to be a part of a topic.
4. Realize that many people’s unhappiness is an issue of their own making… and let them own it. Have empathy for them… but not ownership.
5. Know that they (and you) may not be here for the next event… or even next year. Realize that time is short and enjoy the time you have with those.
6. Choose GRACE over vindication. You do not have to give an answer to everyone… but you do need to give one to yourself.
7. Use the soft answer…. Not the Stern one!

Proverbs 15:1-4 Amplified “A soft and gentle and thoughtful answer turns away wrath, But harsh and painful and careless words stir up anger. The tongue of the wise speaks knowledge that is pleasing and acceptable, But the [babbling] mouth of fools spouts folly. The eyes of the Lord are in every place, Watching the evil and the good [in all their endeavors]. A soothing tongue [speaking words that build up and encourage] is a tree of life, But a perversive tongue [speaking words that overwhelm and depress] crushes the spirit.
