A woman tries to prepare her immature boyfriend to make a good first impression when meeting her intimidating ex-CIA agent father for the first time.

Episode Summary:

Lara drives her boyfriend Troy to meet her father David for the first time. She grills Troy on details about their fake background story to present to her dad, afraid he'll dislike Troy's real history.

At her father's house, David immediately clashes with the goofy, unserious Troy. He demands Troy take a lie detector test to join their "Circle of Love" family club. Though Troy jokes around, he stands his ground with David.

When David finds out Lara has secretly dated Troy for 2 years, not 6 months, he angrily chokes Troy until Lara stops him. She admits hiding Troy to protect him from her dad's smothering.

David apologizes, agreeing Troy's personality, though annoying, is a "glimmer of light." Lara has tried to ready the immature Troy for her intimidating father's interrogation, with mixed results. But she manages to soften David to her unconventional boyfriend.
