One of the most recognizable plot holes in modern comics, the Clark Kent Effect is a famous example of how media loves to portray characters as more desirable if they conform to more stereotypical standards of beauty. Even more problematic is when the same idea is thrust upon women, making them feel inadequate and less than because they choose to present themselves in a way deemed unfeminine to the masses.
