In the Wilderness 〚 The Clash of the Levitical Clans 〛Pentateuch: A New Look
In this session, based on Torah portion Korah (Numbers 16:1-18:32), we will explore the intriguing story of rebellion led in part by Korah. We'll closely examine the narrative within the Pentateuch (Numbers and Deuteronomy) and cross-reference other texts within the Tanakh to address the complexities and questions these accounts raise. Our study will delve into the genealogies of Levitical clans to uncover the underlying causes of this strife.
We'll discuss the roles and sacred duties of the sons of Levi, with a special focus on the responsibilities of the sons of Kohath, who are charged with the most holy things, and show that according to our priestly sources, only the sons of Aaron can serve as priests. Additionally, we will look into the legacy of Korah and his famous descendants.
