In which Gerard awakens from a restorative sleep and, with his faithful companion Denys, journeys to a small town where they are compelled to await the trial of certain miscreants who once threatened them. The young men seek eagerly to thank their mysterious female saviour, whose identity remains as yet unknown, and appeal to the local alderman for aid in their quest.
