The Cold War wasn't very cold. No, the Americans and Soviets never fought a direct conflict, but plenty of American and Soviet-backed soldiers fought and died in proxy wars. Plenty of Americans and Soviets themselves fought and died.

Why didn't the two sides just duke it out Rocky and Drago style? Nuclear weapons, plain and simple.
