Music brings colour in many forms for pianist Joyce Yang. The synesthete sees colours when she plays music and says music stimulates an intense visual sensory experience for her. She explains how colour helps her learn and interpret music. She’s here to play Rachmaninov’s Third Concerto with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra and Edo de Waart, the conductor she first played this work with. Yang, who has had professional representation since the age of twelve, begins a five-centre New Zealand tour in Wellington tonight.
