Michael is currently co-host of the ABC's breakfast program News Breakfast alongside Lisa Millar and is the ABC's senior network presenter.

Michael was previously North America correspondent and during his posting covered stories including the election of Barack Obama as US President, the outbreak of the financial crisis of 2007–2008, the Virginia Tech massacre and David Hicks release from Guantanamo Bay.

He is a seasoned journalist and broadcaster, he has spent more than 25 years covering some of the biggest stories in Australia and around the world.
