the Confronting Kingdom

Listen Later

What really shapes a city?
Buildings, businesses, politics, and culture may be what we see, but beneath every city is an invisible architecture made up of what people worship, trust, and ultimately live for.
In Acts 19, Paul arrives in Ephesus, one of the most influential cities in the Roman Empire. It was a center of commerce, emperor worship, the occult, and the Temple of Artemis, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Rather than attacking the culture head-on, Paul faithfully preached Jesus, made disciples, and taught people to live under the lordship of Christ.
The result? Hearts changed. Idols fell. Culture shifted.
In this message, we’ll explore:
• Why worship always shapes culture
• The spiritual battle taking place beneath the surface
• The danger of wanting the power of Jesus without surrendering to His lordship
• What the burning of the magic books teaches us about repentance
• How the gospel still confronts the idols of money, security, power, and identity today
The question Acts 19 leaves us with isn’t simply, “Do you believe in Jesus?”
It’s this:
Who is actually sitting on the throne of your life?
If Jesus truly is King, He doesn’t become another priority. He becomes the One who reshapes every part of life.
