As divided as our nation is, we do seem to have one abiding cultural value: Self-expression is the key to a full and authentic life. However, our increasing ability to express ourselves has led to a unique dilemma; if everyone can be heard, no one can be heard. This impasse often leads to increasingly desperate and even extreme forms of behavior, perpetrated by people who want to be heard at any cost.
