The Consequences of True Worship – Part 2

David W Palmer

Jesus is our role model for true worship in spirit and in truth. We can see his heart of worship in his life of continual surrenders to the will of his Father—a life of worshipful, yielded submission. We are looking at what the benefits of this lifestyle will be for us when we replicate it.

D. Benefits of the 40 Day Fast—surrender of self-supplementation, etc.

(Matthew 4:11 NKJV) “Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.”

  • After the wilderness-war with the enemy, Jesus came out a winner
  • The influence of Death was driven from overshadowing the region (Mat. 4:12–16)
  • He said “no” to the temptation with stone and bread, but angels ministered to him
  • He said “no” to jumping off the temple, but now multitudes follow him in humility
  • He said “no” to worshipping the devil, but became the Lord of those kingdoms legitimately

E. He Rose Early To Pray—surrender of self-reliance

(Mark 1:35 NLT) `“Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.”

  • He didn’t rely on the flesh, keeping it in bed to rest it
  • Instead, he relied on God’s help
  • He received the supernatural power of God in his ministry

F. He Ministered On Retreat—surrender of self-rights

(John 6:14 NKJV) Then those men, when they had seen the sign that Jesus did, said, “This is truly the Prophet who is to come into the world.”

  • Jesus didn’t demand his right to his days off, but …
  • The people realized who he was
  • People’s needs were met through God’s supernatural power

G. He Gave the Sacrifice of Praise—surrender of self-esteem

    • God led him and helped him
    • He stayed in God’s will and plan for him—he enjoyed God’s leadership

H. He Prayed in Gethsemane for God’s Will—surrender of self-preservation

(Luke 22:43 NKJV) “Then an angel appeared to Him from heaven, strengthening Him.”

  • The angel strengthened him to do God’s will
  • This is grace, grace, grace

I. He Placed His Spirit Into God’s Hands—surrender of self-determination

(Luke 23:46 NKJV) And when Jesus had cried out with a loud voice, He said, “Father, ‘into Your hands I commit My spirit.’” Having said this, He breathed His last.

  • He trusted God with the outcome of his death
  • The redemption of man was the outcome
  • Plus, he rose from the dead, no longer subject to death:

(Revelation 1:18 DKJV) “I am he that lives, and was dead; and behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.”

CONCLUSION—Jesus’s surrenders always paid off, and yours will too.

Let’s recap; as a result of his humble, yielded worship in spirit and truth, Jesus:

  • Was led by the Holy Spirit to overcome the devil
  • Had angels minister to him
  • Was clothed in Holy Spirit power
  • Received supernatural help
  • Saw miracle ministry
  • Had people recognize his ministry
  • Received God’s help with the ultimate surrender
  • Had angels strengthen him
  • Received a resurrection

Jesus is no longer subject to death, and mankind is redeemed. Can I encourage you today to peel off another layer of resistance to God’s will? Draw near to him with love, praise, and thanksgiving; worship him in Spirit and in truth; receive mercy and find grace to help. The benefits of true worship are out of this world.
