In 2008, I wondered what I was doing with my life, struggling to find a point in having founded a design firm in New York City and simultaneously feeling overwhelmingly stimulated by the rewards of my so-called success, a condition difficult for an immigrated French boy not to feel excited about.

As uncomfortable as it is to watch your foibles filleted in front of you like a codfish
The Considered Life offers a refreshing perspective to Seekers; to those pitifully earnest but courageous souls who choose to swallow the red pill, to follow the white rabbit down the hole, to folks who are willing to contemplate a life based on the Book of Fidelity To Self (at the risk of losing family, friends & their minds). Mr. Boublil presents a straightforward and unilateral call to action and to attention and to valuing one's particular agency above all else, and is a refreshing shift from other (crap) I've read on the subject of trying to Discover Who You Truly Are. As a person who is, admittedly, in the midst of a decade-long midlife crisis and who has been searching for answers *out there*--on the pages of Oprah-approved books and from the mouths of the friendly but rigid monks who reside in the Buddhist temple I visit when I've had a particularly difficult day--this book, at first, pissed me off. On every page Mr. Boublil, with his deft hand and unflinchingly candid eye, reminds me of the missteps I've made (and not actually noticed) and of my failure to pay attention (to almost everything) and of my denial of my own agency (pointing out that, in its place my go-to attitude could very well be blame and victimization). By Chapter 3 (Faith), however, I was intrigued by his honesty and by Chapter 5 (Family), I was hooked by his big, giant heart (shhhâdonât tell him I noticed it). As uncomfortable as it is to watch your foibles filleted in front of you like a codfish, The Considered Life forces the reader to examine her (my) lack of integrity and scrutinize her (my) preponderance for laziness and scrutinize the fact that I've basically been sleepwalking through life for the past 43 years. I walked away from this manuscript with renewed hope about my Potential (Yup, Potential) and a fierce attitude. This is not an optimistic book (and I mean that in the very best way) and it should not be undertaken by the faint of heart. But for those readers who are ready and willing to banish their fears and break their habits and are willing to venture out INTO their lives on their own crutch-free, wobbly Bambi legs, then sign up! I'll pack some artisinal cheese and a bottle of Bordeaux and meet you by the River.

This was truly an introspective experience with an extroverted flare. It makes you take a look at the way you are thinking and why. But, it does this age old task in a new and refreshing way. He's talking to us about his journey of self discovery and asking you where you might have yours. It's as if you are having a philosophical conversation, with a friend and a glass of wine by your side, that just might change your life. Enjoy it. It's not that often we get the chance in our busy lives to think about why we do anything!
