Entrusted with a formal mission from the high priest, Saul of Tarsus departed for Damascus to arrest the Christians there and bring them bound to Jerusalem. As he was nearing Damascus, about noon, a light from heaven suddenly blazed round him. On the road to Damascus, Saul had an encounter with the Risen Jesus Christ. Jesus asked, “Saul, Saul, why are you persecuting me?” Saul replied, “Who are you, sir?” Jesus responded, “I am Jesus whom you are persecuting”.  This encounter would determine his theology for the remainder of his life
