The Conversion Series Ep 20 | The Conversion of Amar Bista – Coordinator of 'We Ignite Nations' (WIN) Nepal

Listen Later

Born in the rugged mountain terrain of Nepal's Himalayan region, Amar grew up in the midst of a vicious internal civil war. Amar's father worked for the government telecom station, so the rebels singled out Amar's family for special abuse. In the middle of the night rebels entered their small home and beat Amar's father almost to death before his eyes.

From that point on Amar became a child soldier. Trained in explosives and bomb making, Amar became a deadly youth fighter. All the while, his anger continued to fester. As a village boy walking seven miles to school from his home in the village, he faced continual discrimination from the city boys who considered him backwards and beneath their status.

When he grew older, his parents sent him to high school, which was a three day journey away in the big city of Kathmandu. There, Amar's athletic ability was recognized and he was selected to play on Nepal's national soccer league. However, Amar was still full of anger from the warfare and abuse he had experienced as a child. He often beat up the warden who looked after the hostel where he lived.  But the warden was a Christian, and he forgave Amar and showed him the unconditional love of Christ. This was the defining step in Amar's transformation.

Today, Amar is the National Coordinator of Nepal for a US-based nonprofit, 'We Ignite Nations' (WIN).

Listen to this podcast to experience more of Amar's incredible story.  Hear how this child soldier and Himalayan mountaineer became a fearless Christian reformer and popular leader for his own oppressed people of Nepal.
