A pretty good week for Loyd Star's Hornets and Lady Hornets golf teams — last week the girls won their first-ever state championship, and this week the boys followed up by going back-to-back on state titles in 2A. A brand-new program, with a coach and players who had only passing knowledge of the game, managed to grab the best athletes from other sports and teach them volleyball in a few weeks and go on to win 18 games and reach Round Two of the playoffs.
