Preached by Apostle Aje Pelser at 10am on September 23
Harvester Reformational Church, Cape Town
1Pe 2:4 Coming to Him as to a living stone, rejected indeed by men, but chosen by God and precious,
1Pe 2:5 you also, as living stones, are being built up a spiritual house, a holy priesthood, to offer up spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ.
1Pe 2:6 Therefore it is also contained in the Scripture, “BEHOLD, I LAY IN ZION A CHIEF CORNERSTONE, ELECT, PRECIOUS, AND HE WHO BELIEVES ON HIM WILL BY NO MEANS BE PUT TO SHAME.”
1Pe 2:7 Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, “THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED HAS BECOME THE CHIEF CORNERSTONE,”
1Pe 2:8 and “A STONE OF STUMBLING AND A ROCK OF OFFENSE.” They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed.
1Pe 2:9 But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light;
1Pe 2:10 who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy.
Here are the specifications of the Cornerstone that in turn, builds us into a spiritual house for God.
1st Specification of the Cornerstone: Positioned in Zion
We are well versed in the fact that Zion now represents the church in a New Testament context. When David bought that land from the Jebusites, he said he would not worship God on a land that cost him nothing. 2 Samuel 24:24
It speaks of sacrifice and tabernacle, of praise and worship, of the heart of David, of the Lion of the tribe of Judah that tabernacles with his people, of the heavenly Jerusalem and the Church of the Firstborn, registered in heaven.
2nd Specification of the Cornerstone: Chosen
The amount of rejection Jesus received at the hands of men, is directly proportional to the amount of acceptance he received from the Father at His baptism, transfiguration and before crucufixion:
Mat 3:17 And suddenly a voice came from heaven, saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”
