In 1988, the Imbaba district of Egypt was shaken by the discovery of a completely charred body dumped inside a trash bin. At first, investigators believed it belonged to a student, but forensic analysis later determined the victim was a woman of about thirty who had been savagely tortured and then burned alive. The case quickly became one of the most significant files for Egypt’s forensic medicine and criminal laboratories. Heavy rain destroyed much of the evidence at the scene, and residents were initially too frightened to speak out. Despite these obstacles, police focused on a trio of local thugs known for violent crimes. Through a shrewd interrogation strategy, investigators obtained confessions from all three, revealing how they had viciously attacked the woman late at night before setting her on fire in the trash bin. Her identity remains unknown to this day.
