My goodness what a surprisingly delightful little book!

update 3-2-15 - I have started reading this for the 4th time in the past year, and it's just as exciting and mesmerizing as the first time! Most books that I have read in the past I can read the first page 10 years later, remember the whole story, lose interest and put it away . Not so with Andrea's - there's a quality about her writing with so much suspense and little twists and turns it's impossible to remember what happens next, a magical forgetting so you can enjoy it over and over with just a few months between. I've never read another author with the talent of Andrea. Still anxiously awaiting book 4, I'll re-read books 2 and 3 after I finish this. AWESOME!

It just ends too soon :o) I got it in the mail yesterday, started reading around 1 pm, intending to only read enough to get a feel for the book then go about my housework. Well I got so caught up in the story I kept going back to the living room to read a little more. Long story short - I couldn't stop until I got to the last page around midnight. I had intended this book to last me a week anyway, not one day! It's going to be one of my keepers for sure to read again and again. Andrea has a wonderful imagination to create such colorful characters in such a short time, and her storyline is captivating and fast-moving, the only author I know who can make the magic seem real and 'normal'. I can't wait for successive books, I'm already addicted to the Winship story :o) Like another reviewer, I would love to see a movie really soon made from this first one. And I hope there is a sequel that picks up right where this one ends with James arriving in Port Townsend instead of a 12-year gap.

Part of the charm of the book is her easy way of speaking naturally which draws you in and makes you feel like part of her family. No extraneous boring chatter to make the book longer that causes one to 'skim' - you need to read every word or you might miss something important. I greatly admire Ms. Savar for her talent and having the courage to get it printed on her own and out there for all of us to enjoy. I sincerely hope this sells well enough a publisher will want to pick her up on contract and make future books available much sooner. Way to go Andrea!
