Jesus was “forced” or “driven” into the wilderness. This isn’t how you’d think the messianic mission would start and/or progress. It’s not linear. It starts with a detour. What we’ll learn is that Jesus is a detour. Jesus is all about detour and departure, purposeful detour and departure. Following him is the same.
