On November 24, 1971, a man using the name Dan Cooper boarded a short flight from Portland to Seattle. Soon after takeoff, he told a flight attendant that he had a bomb and demanded two hundred thousand dollars and four parachutes.
After receiving the ransom, Cooper released the passengers, ordered the aircraft back into the sky, and disappeared through the rear stairs of the Boeing 727 somewhere above the Pacific Northwest. Despite one of the longest investigations in FBI history, his identity and ultimate fate have never been established.
