Listen Later

Welcome to The Daily AI Briefing, your daily dose of artificial intelligence news. I’m Marc, and here are the updates for October 26, 2024.

Today, we’ll cover the following topics: Midjourney’s new image editor, the dissolution of OpenAI’s AGI Readiness team, the upcoming Orion model, the White House’s new AI guidelines, and finally, Notion’s innovation in email management.

First topic: Midjourney is innovating with a revolutionary new image editor. This new interface allows users to modify their generated images with unprecedented ease. Features include expansion, cropping, and a particularly innovative retexturing tool. This tool allows users to adjust lighting and materials while preserving the original shape. For now, access is limited to premium subscribers and experienced users.

Moving on to OpenAI, the company is making headlines with two major announcements. First, it is dissolving its "AGI Readiness" team. This decision comes in a specific context, with the departure of senior advisor Miles Brundage, who has expressed concerns about the direction of safety in the industry. Part of the team will join the new chief economist, while others will be reassigned.

In the same vein, OpenAI is preparing the launch of Orion, its next AI model, scheduled for December. Unlike usual, this model will not be immediately available on ChatGPT. Initial access will be reserved for specific partners, with Microsoft at the top of the list. The announced performance is spectacular: up to 100 times more powerful than GPT-4.

In Washington, the White House is strengthening its regulatory framework. A new memorandum encourages the adoption of AI in federal agencies while establishing strict safeguards. A crucial point: the formal prohibition of AI for autonomous nuclear decisions and targeting systems without human oversight.

Finally, Notion announces its entry into email management with an application planned for early 2025. This solution will integrate AI to facilitate email organization and drafting, with compatibility for Gmail and synchronization with the Notion calendar.

That was your Daily AI Briefing for October 26. From image editing to email management, AI continues to transform our daily lives while raising important security and regulatory issues. I’m Marc, and I’ll see you tomorrow for more updates in the world of artificial intelligence.
