Welcome to The Daily Crypto Briefing! The crypto landscape is shifting dramatically today as Bitcoin and gold rally while traditional equities tumble. We're witnessing what appears to be a flight to alternative stores of value, with several major developments reshaping the market. From Solana's remarkable staking milestone to regulatory changes at the SEC and fresh controversy surrounding token airdrops, today's episode covers the most significant crypto developments you need to know. In today's briefing, we'll cover Solana briefly overtaking Ethereum in staked value, the incoming SEC chair facing over 70 crypto ETF applications, controversy surrounding Zora's airdrop, Bybit's revelations about the Lazarus hack funds, and USDC's impressive growth. Let's dive into these stories. First up, Solana has achieved a remarkable milestone by briefly surpassing Ethereum in total staking market cap. On April 20th, Solana had over $53.9 billion worth of SOL locked by more than 500,000 wallet holders. This flip was largely driven by SOL's explosive price performance against ETH, surging tenfold since mid-2023. However, some analysts argue that Solana's 8.31% staking yield might actually be cannibalizing its own DeFi ecosystem. Despite this milestone, Ethereum maintains dominance in decentralized finance with over $50 billion in Total Value Locked compared to Solana's $8.85 billion. Ethereum also boasts a massive validator lead with 1.06 million active validators versus Solana's 1,243, and security concerns continue to cloud Solana's staking model. Moving to regulatory developments, incoming SEC Chair Paul Atkins faces a daunting task with more than 70 crypto ETF applications awaiting review. These proposals cover everything from Solana and XRP to Dogecoin and even novelty tokens like the Official Melania meme coin. Confirmed earlier this month, Atkins is expected to take office shortly, ushering in a new chapter of crypto-focused rulemaking under the Trump administration. Analysts anticipate that 2025 could bring the broadest ETF approvals yet, following last year's landmark approval of Ethereum and Bitcoin ETFs. These filings reflect growing demand from asset managers seeking to expand Wall Street's exposure to digital assets. In more controversial news, onchain social platform Zora has announced its $ZORA token launch for April 23rd, but the airdrop is already surrounded by allegations of insider trading. The eligibility for the airdrop is based on two historical snapshots of user activity from January 2020 through April 20, 2025. While the platform attracted over 230,000 new traders in a single weekend, critics claim insider wallets profited from advance knowledge of these promotions, with one early buyer reportedly netting over $600,000 before the public caught on. On the security front, Bybit CEO Ben Zhou has revealed that over two-thirds of the $1.4 billion in crypto stolen by North Korea's Lazarus Group remains traceable. According to a report released Monday, 68.6% of the stolen 500,000 ETH is still visible on-chain, while nearly 28% has "gone dark." Approximately 3.8% of the funds have been frozen through coordination with other exchanges. This February breach stands as the largest crypto hack in history and involved sophisticated use of mixers, bridges, and decentralized protocols. Lastly, Circle's USDC stablecoin has shown impressive growth, with supply surging to nearly $61 billion, marking a 38.6% increase since January. This growth outpaces rival USDT and reflects mounting preference from regulated financial entities as Circle eyes a potential IPO. Meanwhile, Tether's USDT grew more modestly from $138 billion to $145 billion. Ethereum continues to dominate as the main stablecoin network, hosting $130 billion of the $226 billion total supply. As we wrap up today's Daily Crypto Briefing, it's clear that the digital asset landscape continues to evolve at breakneck speed. Bitcoin's rally alongside traditional safe havens
