The Daily Verse - November 27, 2015 - Matthew 20:26-28

Matthew 20: 26-28. In Matthew 20:26-28, Jesus says these

words: Whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would
be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be
served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.

Today has

become known on the calendar as Black Friday. There are myriads and myriads of
sales and deals to be had. Many people enjoy Black Friday and find mild
entertainment in the reaction people have to these sales. However, it provides
us a sobering contrast to the Christ of Christmas. He calls His followers to be
last instead of first. He calls them to be a servant instead of a master. He
reminds them He came to serve them, not to be served. When we consider these
facts, Black Friday and the entire treatment of Christmas becomes much less
appealing. The Savior who’s birth we celebrate bears little resembling to
gift-giving holiday we have created. Jesus gave His life as a ransom for many.
The day of His death was the true Black Friday. As you celebrate His birth this
year, do not miss His humble attitude. Do not miss that He came to give you
something far greater than the presents you receive this year.
