The Danger of a Bitter Heart

Luke 15:28-30 (NIV):

"The older brother became angry ๐Ÿ˜  and refused to go in ๐Ÿšช. So his father went out and pleaded with him ๐Ÿ™. But he answered his father, โ€˜Look! All these years Iโ€™ve been slaving for you ๐Ÿ’ผ and never disobeyed your orders โŒ... But when this son of yours ๐Ÿ‘ฆ comes home ๐Ÿ , you kill the fattened calf ๐Ÿ„ for him!โ€™"

Explanation:

The elder brother's heart reveals a hidden danger โ€” serving God with a transactional mindset. ๐Ÿคจ He thought he deserved more because of his obedience. His bitterness blinded him from sharing his fatherโ€™s joy. ๐Ÿ˜ž This attitude can creep into our hearts when we feel overlooked or when grace is shown to others we think donโ€™t deserve it. ๐Ÿ’”

Application:

Is there bitterness in your heart when others are blessed? ๐Ÿค” Ask God to expose any hidden pride or entitlement. ๐Ÿ™ Real love rejoices when others receive Godโ€™s grace โ€” even if they seem โ€œless deserving.โ€ ๐ŸŽ‰โค๏ธ

Reflection Questions:
  1. Have you ever felt resentful when someone else was blessed? ๐Ÿ˜
  2. How can you guard your heart against pride and entitlement? ๐Ÿ›ก๏ธ
  3. What does it look like to rejoice with heaven when the lost return? ๐ŸŽŠ๐Ÿ‘ผ

Use this as a reminder to check your heart and celebrate Godโ€™s grace for all!
