Our culture for many years has been putting ambition as one of the top qualities of a good leader. While ambitious people have been driving our society forward in many aspects, there is a dark side of human ambition. People with high level of ambition without proper moral and ethical guidelines could hurt and destroy many other people in the name of achievement and success. Especially in a network marketing motivational system that considers the number of people they recruit the most important metric for measuring success. The motivational system Bhavya and I were part of for many years only cared about promoting, celebrating and rewarding people who achieve the next level business/financial goals with no regard for whether those people got there ethically or have harmed others in the process. What we saw was people being used as a mean to an end and stepping stones for achieving business and financial goals and people are just another replaceable commodity . This was what I have experienced and observed in this network marketing motivational organization for over a decade. I saw the darkness of human ambition.

Since the early tribal days of our human history, there has been groups of human beings trying to control other groups of human beings. The game of control is as old as the history of our species. In this episode, through our personal stories we took a deeper dive into how a network marketing motivational organization tried and have successfully controlled and manipulated massive amount of people for their financial gains. For two guys like Bhavya and I who have high self-image and pride, it took a lot of self reflection and meditation, and swallowing our pride, to admit that for years we have been played and controlled by a group of cult leaders who pretended to be business gurus and mentors. The silver lining of this whole experience is that, through reflecting upon this journey, we have become so much more self-aware and living in the present and allow no one but ourselves to define who we are and steer the direction of our lives.
