Trust doesn’t usually break all at once.
It cracks quietly. I trusted them without thinking. That was the problem. When someone is your friend, you stop guarding your words. You tell them things you don’t say out loud. You assume your secrets will stay where you put them. I never imagined I’d have to regret that. The first sign was small—so small I almost ignored it. A look exchanged across the room. A joke that felt too close to something I had only ever said in private. I told myself I was being paranoid. Friends don’t betray friends. That’s what I believed.
