Introduction
Please stand for the reading of God’s Word
Luke 17:26-30 ESV  Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.  (27)  They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.  (28)  Likewise, just as it was in the days of Lot—they were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building,  (29)  but on the day when Lot went out from Sodom, fire and sulfur rained from heaven and destroyed them all—  (30)  so will it be on the day when the Son of Man is revealed.

Welcome back to the Book of Luke!We took a small break last week to preach on the importance of local church gatherings, but now we are back to our regularly scheduled programing! If you remember from two weeks ago we started off this section of scripture by talking about the two Kingdoms of God.The Kingdom that is here now, a partial Kingdom… a portion of God’s dominion. And the Kingdom later, the one that is complete and perfect… the one that will start with the second coming of Jesus…We ended that sermon with the word “Maranatha” which means “Lord come quickly!”That blessed assurance, the perfect hope, Christ will return, heaven is real, eternity is coming and because of Christ we get to dwell with Him forever.Today we are going to dive into some deeper theology, we are going to talk about some deep things… we are going to talk details and what they mean for us today.

Point One – The World is Ignorant of Sin
Luke 17:26-30 ESV  Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.  (27)  They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Again, point one is “The world is Ignorant of Sin”I want to point something out here… the focus here is not on the sin in the world… but the complete ignorance of society….Hear me out… so many people, when they read this verse they talk about the days of Noah as if Jesus was talking about the wickedness of their sin…And clearly if you know the story of Lot and the Story of Noah you know that there was some major sin.
Genesis 6:5-8 ESV  The LORD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intention of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  (6)  And the LORD regretted that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him to his heart.  (7)  So the LORD said, “I will blot out man whom I have created from the face of the land, man and animals and creeping things and birds of the heavens, for I am sorry that I have made them.”  (8)  But Noah found favor in the eyes of the LORD.
So certainly the sin was great in the days of Noah… to the point where God regretted making man… An entire world of people… except for one family… who was wicked! So God destroyed the earth, except for that one family and all kinds of animals. But Jesus never mentions the sin of the people in Noah’s time, at least not in this instance… follow me here…
Luke 17:26-27 ESV  Just as it was in the days of Noah, so will it be in the days of the Son of Man.  (27)  They were eating and drinking and marrying and being given in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all.
Notice that Jesus, when talking about the second coming, he says it will be like the days of Noah… but instead of mentioning their sin, Jesus mentioned their IGNORANCE.They were eating and drinking and marrying… none of these things are sinful… it is certainly sinful to be drunk, but that’s not the word here, here it is simply drinking… as in drinking a glass of water…So Jesus doesn’t mention their sin… instead he mentions the AUDACITY of society to ignore the warnings of Christ… the doors of the Ark where open up until the time of the flood, no o
