Dan Holiday, a mystery novelist who advertises for adventure, receives a letter from Mrs. Sheila Corbett, pleading for help. Her father, John Corbett, has disappeared under mysterious circumstances, and she fears something terrible has happened.

As Holiday investigates, he learns that John Corbett was presumed dead years ago—but now, there are whispers that he has been seen alive. The deeper Holiday digs, the more he realizes that Corbett’s past is tangled in a web of deception, hidden identities, and a secret that someone is desperate to keep buried.

Holiday follows a trail of clues leading to a pawn shop, where he is ambushed and knocked unconscious. When he wakes, the shop is empty, and the evidence he found has vanished. With the help of Lieutenant Kling, Holiday pieces together the truth: Corbett was involved in a counterfeit money operation, and his former associates are trying to silence him before he can expose them.

In a tense final confrontation, Holiday and the police uncover the counterfeit plates hidden in an old house in Brennan Square, leading to the arrest of the criminals. Corbett, now free from his past, reunites with his daughter.
