Republicans passed their own version of a bill that raised the debt limit and cut spending. It didn't go anywhere because it had zero bi-partisan support. That's why House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and the President had to get together and negotiate this current deal. Republicans can spin a win -- sort of with a new work requirement for people who qualify for food stamps -- sort of because they wanted to raise the work requirement to age 64 and agreed to raise it to 54. SNAP -- not Medicaid. Would require able-bodied adults with no kids -- up to age 54 instead of 49 to work 20 hours a week/training program. The Republicans wanted age 64 saying it would save about $11 billion over a decade. Not sure what the new age requirement will save taxpayers.
