THE DEATH OF CHRIST SHOWING GOD’S MERCY
Jesus indeed died for us all, not in place of us all because the Law’s demands would not have been satisfied, since the Law called for the death of the sinner and not for a substitute. We must however remember that the Law calls for the death of the sinner because it is God who made the Law that calls for the death of the sinner. Whatever the Law calls for, it is God in His justice that does the calling. Whatever Plan that God has instituted to save man, it is from His own justice which in the holiness of His Nature He must carry out. No Plan instituted by God makes Him seek to gratify His urge to punish upon an innocent man and yet still hold this urge upon the guilty, and yet call this Plan “grace” or “mercy”. This is too outrageous. God’s Plan must allow Him to deny His urge to punish upon certain conditions He has stated and thus truly exercise mercy, grace, and forgiveness. It is this that the objective-substitutionary concepts hide from the minds of people in false Christianity.
