Eric Scheidler is the Executive Director of the Pro-Life Action League. He is a second generation pro-life activist, the oldest of Joe and Ann Scheidler’s children. He was only 6 years old when his parents first got involved in the pro-life movement, shortly before the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court ruling that stripped unborn children of their legal right to life in 1973. Eric grew up attending protests and rallies, leafleting neighborhoods and talking about abortion with friends and classmates.
The pro-life world was shocked to hear that notorious abortionist Kermit Gosnell had died in prison earlier this month.
I offer the following statement for use in any coverage you may give to the news of his passing:
I was saddened to hear of the passing of Kermit Gosnell in prison earlier this month. The Pro-Life Action League and many others highlighted the horrible crimes he committed when they came to light, and it provided a shock to America’s system, perhaps even contributing to the overturning of Roe v. Wade a few years later.
Gosnell’s mutilation of more developed children was indeed disgusting in a particular way, but the children killed in every abortion are no less our brothers and sisters than his victims were. Every child deserves to be welcomed into the human family and cared for. That’s the message of radical love that fuels the pro-life movement.
In fact, Kermit Gosnell deserves our love and care right now. I have been and will continue to pray that he repented of what he did, and that his soul finds repose in the infinite mercy of God. I invite all pro-life people to join me in doing so.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions or for further comment.
Yours sincerely,— Eric
