On this episode, we discuss the fifty-first Best Picture Winner: “THE DEER HUNTER.”
"The Deer Hunter" takes place in 1968, and follows Michael, Nick and Steven, lifelong friends from a working-class Pennsylvania steel town as they prepare to ship out overseas following Steven's elaborate wedding and one final group hunting trip. In Vietnam, their dreams of military honor are quickly shattered by the inhumanities of war; even those who survive are haunted by the experience, as is Nick's hometown sweetheart, Linda. Directed Michael Cimino, the film stars Robert De Niro as Michael, Christopher Walken as Nick, John Savage as Steven, John Cazale as Stan and Meryl Streep as Linda.
