On this episode of The Demia Avery Show – The Industry, I sit down with David Doan, Vice President of Emerging Talent at CESD Talent Agency, for a fun and informative conversation about what actors need to know about navigating the entertainment industry.

David brings a unique perspective because he's seen this business from several sides of the table—as an agent, casting director and talent manager. Before CESD, he worked in casting at Nickelodeon on projects including VICTORiOUS and Big Time Rush, and he's spent more than two decades working with emerging performers.

We talk about submitting to agents, what “marketable” really means, training, the mysterious “it factor,” working with young performers and their parents, how the industry has changed, and much more.

And because we can't be serious the whole time, David also plays “YES, NO…OR IT DEPENDS?” 😂 I give him some situations actors might find themselves in—and he has to tell me whether it's a YES, a NO, or…well…it depends!
