The Devil: God’s Archnemesis

Listen Later

The devil is God’s enemy in the story of the Bible.

It all started in the beginning….

Gen 3:1-7

The devil used the same tactics on Jesus as in the garden with Adam and Eve, but Jesus understood his enemy and faced him with the truth.

Luke 4:1-13

“Devil” means “slanderer”; and “Satan” means “adversary.”

The devil is a master schemer. He rarely launches a total frontal assault. Instead, he works subtly and insidiously to disrupt and deceive.

Denying or distorting the truth is the devil’s main objective. If he can do that, then he can mislead people away from God and destroy God’s work in their lives.

Mark 4:14-20

“Don’t think of Satan as a harmless cartoon character with a red suit and a pitchfork. He is very clever and powerful, and his unchanging purpose is to defeat God’s plans at every turn—including His plans for your life.” ~Billy Graham, The Journey

People are often the means by which the devil attacks believers. He works through temptations and human sinfulness to disrupt God’s work in the lives of His people.

John 8:42-47

2 Cor 11:14-15

The battles rage on, but the war has already been won. Through his death and resurrection, Jesus has defeated the devil—God’s archnemesis!

Heb 2:14-15

Matthew 25:31-46

Revelation 12:7-12; 20:10
