In March 1918, USS Cyclops departed Barbados carrying a massive cargo of manganese ore and more than three hundred people. The United States Navy ship was bound for Baltimore, but it never arrived. No distress call was received, and no confirmed wreckage was ever found.

This episode examines the ship's final voyage, concerns about its machinery and heavy cargo, the wartime suspicion that a German submarine might have attacked it, and the structural explanations later considered by naval historians. Its disappearance would eventually become associated with the Bermuda Triangle, although the mystery began decades before that legend became famous.
