This episode of The Kat In The Trap takes music in a different direction, introducing Vancouver, BC all-star DJ/producers Seb C West Coast, and Jaemo & Tess, with some new remixes heating up the airwaves this summer. I wanted to start out with our normal hip-hop feel, using some records you might be familiar with, before sliding into Lee Ross and Black V Neck—something you might hear in a proper house set or on Groove Directive on Dizz Global Radio. One of my favorite things to do is blend EDM with trap music and hip-hop, while occasionally throwing in some R&B. We even switched up the cover this time to give Kat a different look for the series—but it's the same bangers representing the tattooed goddess herself. House Wednesdays are a main staple of Portland nightlife. Hosted by Shay Baca since 2023, I got an invite my first summer in Seattle after doing a short vlog during one of my many visits to Portland. Audition mixes are always fun, and this is exactly why I call this series The 206 Sessions. This is a mix I put together for Q Nightclub called The Progressive Opener. It's the ideal set I would play if I were opening for a progressive artist such as Qrion or Oliver Smith. Having opened for four Anjuna artists with Progression Indy over the last four years, and with a series like Alki Sessions under my belt, progressive and organic house are truly in my DNA. Prior moving to Seattle in the summer of 2023, I created a new mixtape series called Alki Sessions, taking a deep dive into Progressive House, Organic House, and Melodic House & Techno. Those are usually the elements I start my Transcension sets with, but having a couple progressive shows over the summer of 2023, I wanted a new electronic series that focused on that. I did Ten episodes in 2023, but only released 9 on Mixcloud. This was the original song order of episode 010 before taking a two year hiatus and moving over to Podomatic and Apple Podcasts. One of the cool things about this series is that I get to give people an inside look at some of my sets, which is why I call them "sessions." This mix was an audition I did for Q Nightclub in Seattle to open for the duo Twinsick. The nice thing about having Dizz Global Radio is that it allows me to showcase various forms of mainstream electronic music. After a successful debut at Vice Seattle, the following week I started making my move to Portland. Wednesdays and Thursdays were my days off during my summer job at Enterprise, so a visit to Open Decks at House Wednesdays with Shay Baca was definitely in order. Before the main House Wednesday lineup starts, Open Decks are held for the first two hours, and occasionally I get to do a set. In Season Two, I'll bring you a video set I did back in February—I'm thinking about uploading the video itself or extracting the audio.
