The Dog Philosophy – How To Ask For What You Want

Listen Later

Being a human can be a complicated business. We have wants, desires, needs and preferences. Many of these go unfulfilled. This is often due to our own inability to egolessly, shamelessly, and healthily ask for what we want.

Human minds are complex and often clouded by self-doubt, unnecessary shame and guilt, anxieties, fears, hang-ups. Stifling self-consciousness plagues a great many of us. In many respects, we are our own worst enemies.

We struggle to clearly ask for what we want. We feel shame at doing so. We are told from a young age that selfishness is an awful trait. So we feel shame for having ‘selfish’ wants and desires.

We also feel ashamed of being told “no”. It makes us feel like small children again, silly for having bared our souls and made known what we desire. We also fear confrontation, and we believe that we risk confrontation if we ask for what we want.

This is the Dog Philosophy – how to ask for what you want.

Dogs have no such hang-ups. And so they have nothing hampering their ability to be honest and straightforward. Dogs are true masters at honestly asking for what they want.

And we find this trait extremely charming!

The Value Of Asking For What You Really Want

In many cases, people are delighted to have the chance to give you what you desire! People enjoy giving others what they desire. And people often desire things that are compatible with what you desire. The only way to find this out is to ask for what you desire!

Another value of asking for what you really want is that people find it charming and impressive. Humans are wonderful readers of other humans. We can tell when people are holding back or being less than hone...
