If we don't like someone and that person says or does something that is uncool, we tear them apart over it. We shame them, we guilt them, we blame them, we demonize them, we assassinate their character. If someone we like says or does the very same thing, we overlook it, we minimize it, we deny it, we give that person the benefit of the doubt, we assume the best, not the worst, we find ways to explain it, to excuse it, to blame someone or something else for it. And it doesn't diminish our assessment of that person's character. This is a double-standard. This is dishonest. We need to apply the same criteria for judging the words and deeds of those people we like as well as those we don't like.
