Jude tells Dr. Sree about making the move from accounting to psychotherapy. After working as an accountant for thirty years, Jude felt like she had reached the outer edges of what she wanted to accomplish in the profession. She realized that external influences had been the primary motivation for her decision to become a Chartered Accountant, and looked to psychotherapy to explore a different version of herself. Jude had always dabbled in personal development and psychotherapy was an organic extension of that interest.

Dr. Sree and Jude talk about the struggles they’ve both had with Impostor Syndrome, the phenomenon where despite evidence of our competence and success, we often tell ourselves that we are not good enough, smart enough, or even equal to the people around us. This often means that we are constantly trying to prove ourselves through our actions, ironically resulting in being very good at a multitude of things.

Jude and Dr. Sree assert the importance of changing your inner dialogue and how it can change our relationships with other people. They encourage us to engage with our inner critic, and not let it keep us stuck and small. Learning to engage with our inner critic allows us to explore the stories we tell ourselves; and take away their power to hold us back.
