The Drug Case That Still Haunts Me

Listen Later

In Part 3 of this series, I share some of the most disturbing experiences I encountered as a police officer dealing with drug addiction and its impact on families.

This episode goes beyond the individual addict and examines the broader consequences I witnessed on patrol—from child neglect and exploitation to the devastating effect addiction can have on entire communities. I discuss real cases involving parents whose addiction became more important than their own children, including incidents that continue to haunt me years later.

We also discuss the policies and criminal justice reforms that have shaped today's addiction crisis, including drug decriminalization efforts, open-air drug use, early inmate releases, and proposals to restore voting rights to convicted felons.

Drawing on my firsthand experiences in law enforcement, I explain why I believe these policies often have consequences that are rarely discussed by the people promoting them.

Whether you agree with my conclusions or not, these are real stories from the street and the lessons I took away from responding to them.
