The Restless Creatives

The Dumbest & Saddest Financial Decision I Have Ever Made

Listen Later

Episode 11: As you can tell, this week I’ll be talking about something that I’m not so proud of. One of the absolute dumbest and saddest financial decisions I’ve ever made. I think it’s important to talk about because I’m going to start a new 5 part series on Personal Finance and how it relates to our Restless Creative community. Stay tuned for “Creative Finances 101” starting next week, but today let’s get back to the story.

One of the absolute dumbest and saddest financial decisions I’ve ever made was trying to finance a vehicle while being broke  and having TONS of student loans. I wish I was kidding. The saddest part about it was I was at a time in my life where I was really tired of being stupid with my money, but I did absolutely no research. So here I was about to finance a vehicle with my student loans, while also being in the worst personal ruts in my life. I bought the car. Then, I did my research.

Luckily, I was able to get myself out of the situation. And during one of the darkest periods of my life, I was able to learn some extremely valuable lessons:

  1. Don’t let fear drive your decisions
  2. Don’t be afraid of how your financial situation will look to someone else
  3. Never sign anything you have not read in its entirety.
  4. If you HAVE to finance a car, never do it through a dealership
  5. Giving up on yourself is never an option.
