One would think that God would make his case to the world by showing how great and wonderful his people are because they have agreed to his teachings. But this is not the story of Scripture- and this makes all the difference for us. The story of God is not about his choice of a morally superior people. It’s about his inclusion of people who are a complete mess. It’s about his love for people who need much more than some religious teachings to spruce up their lives. What shines in this story is the fact that God is gathering the dysfunctional into his family. Dysfunctional families are included in God’s plan.
