Publisher's Summary:
Oliver York returns from war to find his father dead, his finances in arrears, and himself the new Earl of Carlisle. If he doesn't marry an heiress - and fast! - he and his tenants are going to be pitching tents down by the Thames. He definitely shouldn't be trading kisses with a penniless debutante...no matter how captivating she is!
Miss Grace Halton is in England just long enough to satisfy the terms of her dowry. But a marriage of convenience isn't as easy as she'd hoped. Back in America, her ailing mother needs medicine only Grace's dowry can afford. Which means the dashing earl she can't get out of her mind is the one man she can't let into her heart.

Great read and listen..
A young woman from America and an Earl, both in dire need of money, meet at a ball while looking for a rich husband and/or wife, only to be attracted to each other, and having Oliver compromise Grace. Grace wanted to get her dowry from her grandparents so she has to marry and then shes hoping her new husband will let her go back to America to get her ill mother. And Oliver needs money to rebuild the Earldom his father flittered away. Yeah, it didnt quite work out for either of them.
This was such a cute story and it was simply amazing how wealthy Oliver and Grace were when all was said and done.
And there was also sex in this story, but it was romantic sex and not erotic.
I was very intrigued with Xavier and his nearly catatonic state in this book so now Im going to read his book.
As to the narrator: Another great example of just how wonderful Stevie Zimmermans narration has become lately. Love her voices and emotional reading. Everyone was English in the story but Grace and Ms. Zimmerman made Grace sound completely American.
Delightful!
This was delightful! A short little bit of fun. Great narration. I'd like it better if it were longer and gave more detail about the secondary characters. But I really enjoy Ms Ridley's work.
Enjoyable
I love historical romances that are set in old England. This one is pleasant to read. The narrator is average.
Very active cupid!
Lovely story, well written and easy to read and listen to with a beautiful ending.
I loved the compassion and determination that was woven into every turn of the pages. This made both of the main characters very lovable.
The grandparents, grandmother in particular was a horrid person and Erica Ridley has such a knack with words that I found granny extremely hateable and loathsome.
Cupid was very active in this story and even though the hero and heroine didn't want to fall in love, they couldn't dodge his arrows.
I loved this story and recommend that you read it.
Loving this series
Any additional comments?
I read book 1 (The Viscount's Christmas Temptation) prior to this one, and I am loving this series so far.
Grace comes to England from Pennsylvania hoping to find a husband, secure her dowry from her grandparents, and use the money to help her sick mother back home. Oliver returns home from war to find he is the new Duke of Carlisle since his father's death, and his household is in disarray. The two take a liking to each other, but their financial situations aren't ideal for marrying each other.
I really enjoyed the development of the main characters' relationship. It felt really quick, but it's also a very short novel.
