What do we do when God has given us a promise, but we have not yet seen its fulfilment?

In week two of UNHINDERED: The Continuing Mission of Jesus, we find the disciples in the space between the ascension and Pentecost. As they wait for the promised Holy Spirit, they gather in prayer, face the brokenness left by Judas and faithfully prepare for what God will do next.

This message reminds us that waiting on God is not passive or wasted time. Even when the future is unclear, God remains present, faithful and at work.

Following the message, our Echo145 community responded in worship with One Thing Remains before sharing a powerful and encouraging time of prayer together.

UNHINDERED: The Continuing Mission of Jesus

The book of Acts begins with a remarkable truth: Jesus’ work did not end with His death, resurrection, or ascension. His mission continues.

The risen Jesus sends His followers into the world, empowers them by the Holy Spirit, and calls ordinary people to become His witnesses.

In this opening message of our new series, UNHINDERED: The Continuing Mission of Jesus, we begin exploring what Acts tells us about the kind of church Jesus is forming and the mission He invites us to participate in.

The question is not simply, What did the early church do?

It is: What is the risen Jesus still doing — and how is He calling us to join Him?

In this message from 1 John 5:13–21, we come to the concluding words of John’s letter and a deeply pastoral reminder of the confidence and assurance we have in Jesus.

John writes so that those who believe in the Son of God may know that they have eternal life. From confidence in prayer, to the seriousness of sin, to the repeated declaration “we know,” these final verses call us to remain in the One who is the true source of life.

We also wrestle with one of the more difficult passages in 1 John—the “sin that leads to death”—and consider the difference between stumbling while following Jesus and deliberately rejecting the One in whom life is found.

And then John ends with a surprising final command:

“Dear children, keep yourselves from idols.”

Far from being random, these words bring the whole letter together. Every counterfeit promises life somewhere other than God, but John reminds us that whoever has the Son has life.

Know who you belong to.
Remain in Jesus.
And don’t settle for counterfeits.

In this reflection on 1 John 5:1–12, we explore the wonder of salvation, the confidence of faith, and the victory that belongs to those who are in Christ.

John brings together many of the great themes of his letter, new birth, love, obedience, the incarnation, witness, eternal life, and assurance, and reminds us that faith wins the victory. But this is not a victory we achieve through striving. Jesus has already overcome the world, and those who belong to Him are invited to live from His victory.

Drawing connections with John’s Gospel, Hebrews 11–12, Philippians 2, and the wider biblical hope of new creation, this episode reflects on salvation not simply as an escape to heaven when we die, but as participation in the life of God that has already broken into the present through Jesus Christ.

Whoever has the Son has life.

So what does it mean to live with confidence and assurance when we do not yet see everything made new? And how might the resurrection reshape the way we understand faith, victory, hope, and our calling to bear witness in the world?

What is the Bible really about?

It is certainly about salvation, forgiveness and eternal life, but the story of Scripture is even bigger. It is the story of God refusing to abandon His good creation, coming to dwell with His people, and ultimately making all things new.

In this message from 1 John 4:7–21, we explore what John means when he declares, “God is love.” This is not a sentimental slogan or an abstract definition. God has revealed His love in the person of Jesus Christ—the Son who came into the world, dealt with sin and death, and opened the way for God to make His home within His people by the Holy Spirit.

Through this passage, we trace four movements:

God’s love came down.

God’s love makes its home within His people.

God’s love casts out the fear of judgment.

And God’s love reveals the invisible God to the world through a community transformed by His grace.

The Christian life is not ultimately about trying harder to manufacture love. It is about abiding more deeply in the One who first loved us.

In a world full of competing voices, how do we know what is true?

In this eighth message from our series in 1 John, we explore one of the apostle John's clearest and most important tests of authentic Christianity: What do you believe about Jesus?

Before the sermon begins, we take a brief look at the first-century world of Platonism, Gnosticism and Docetism to understand why John places such emphasis on Christ "coming in the flesh." Far from being a minor theological detail, the incarnation stands at the very heart of the gospel. If Jesus did not truly become human, then He did not truly live, die and rise again for our salvation.

From there, we journey through 1 John 4:1–6, where John calls believers to test every spirit, hold fast to the real Jesus, and rest in the confidence that "the One who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world."

Whether you're exploring Christianity, growing in your faith, or simply longing to fix your eyes on Christ again, our prayer is that this message would help you know, love and follow the real Jesus, the God who came near.

What does genuine Christian love actually look like?

In this seventh message through the book of 1 John, we explore one of the clearest evidences of new life in Christ: love. John contrasts the old heart of Cain, marked by hatred, envy and self-preservation, with the new heart revealed in Jesus Christ, who willingly laid down His life for us. As those born again into God's family, we are called to love not merely with words, but with actions and in truth.

Yet John doesn't leave us crushed by our failures. Instead, he leads us to one of the most comforting promises in Scripture: "If our hearts condemn us, God is greater than our hearts." Our assurance is not found in loving perfectly, but in the finished work of Christ and the transforming presence of His Spirit within us.

Who am I?

It's one of the deepest questions every human being asks. Our world tells us our identity is found in what we achieve, what we own, what others think of us, or even in our failures. But the Apostle John points us to a far greater reality.

In this message, we discover the remarkable love of the Father who, through Jesus Christ, has adopted us into His family. We explore what it means to remain in Christ, to live as God's children, and to pursue holiness, not to earn God's love, but because we have already received it.

How do we recognise the true Jesus in a world full of competing voices?

In this fifth message of our series through 1 John, Pastor Josh unpacks 1 John 2:18–27, where the Apostle John addresses one of the greatest challenges facing every generation of Christians: discerning truth from deception.

John reminds us that deception is real. False teachers are real. Counterfeit versions of Jesus are real. Yet his response is not fear, panic, or endless speculation. Instead, he points believers to the confidence and assurance God has already provided. Through the gift of the Holy Spirit, the truth of God's Word, and the life of His Church, Christians are equipped to remain faithful to Christ.

Together we explore:

• The meaning of "the last hour"
• Who the antichrists are
• The anointing of the Holy Spirit
• Why Jesus is the centre of all truth
• What it means to remain (abide) in Christ
• The promise of eternal life

Ultimately, this passage reminds us that the Christian life is not about becoming experts in every counterfeit. It is about knowing the real Jesus so deeply that every counterfeit becomes easier to recognise.
